The Meeting House
The Meeting House envisions an innovative approach to Social Emotional Learning (SEL) for children that offers a rich program mix of activities, guided by professionals and peer mentors. Children are encouraged to identify and express their feelings by using language to build self-awareness, empathy and relationships.
- The purpose of the CCS grant is to support the work with 2 partners, ACT at St. John the Divine and TMALS. The funding will help to expand a successful internship program, where college and post-graduate students can receive hands-on supervision in a diverse and complex educational environment, and include weekly virtual training sessions by the lead social worker throughout the academic year.
- The grant supports the Meeting House at Thurgood Marshall Academy Lower School (TMALS), providing opportunities for children to feel successful outside of the classroom, which helps them to feel socially and emotionally competent.
- The CCS grant will be used for the Meeting House at Thurgood Marshall Academy Lower School (TMALS) Program. The Program will teach 40-50 children how to develop empathy, flexibility, resiliency, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, pride & self-esteem, friendship management, self-awareness, problem-solving and self-regulation.
