On January 14th and 16th, Columbia Community Service (CCS) held the 11th Annual CCS Charity Basketball Tournament. More than 280 participants and spectators collectively raised $7,248.50 to support the CCS 73rd Annual Appeal. The tournament, like other CCS events, builds awareness and raises money for CCS grants to community organizations. Seven teams participated in the tournament, Public Safety, Manhattanville Staff, Manhattanville Ballers, CUIT, Athletics, Facilities, and Academiks. After vigorous competition, Academiks managed to score a 60-53 victory over Athletics to claim the prize.

The Tournament is a fun and exciting way for University employees to raise money towards the Annual Appeal. Joyce Jackson, with the help of her colleagues, has coordinated the event for 11 years. Jackson’s organizational efforts have garnered praise from participants, who extol her hard work and commitment. The board and staff of CCS want to acknowledge and thank Jackson for all her hard work in ensuring the Tournament’s success. With the support of volunteers like Joyce, Columbia Community Service is able to provide grants, in-kind donations, volunteers, and more to over 50 community organizations.  Some of those organizations, like StreetSquash and America Scores, provide educational enrichment programs centered around sports.
