You probably know that food prices have increased, some would say outrageously, since the pandemic. There are no signs that this alarming trend will reverse anytime soon.
Did you know that:
- Inflation is up by almost 6%, but wages have only risen by about 1%
- 23% of New Yorkers live below the poverty line
- 29% of people living in Harlem need help getting enough to eat every day
- More than 182,000 migrants across the city cannot access enough food
This all adds up to a crisis in our communities. A crisis that means children and families are fighting to have enough to eat. It means that our neighbors are “shopping” food pantries or eating in soup kitchens multiple times a week.
